Suggestions for transportation, restaurants, attractions, and conference hotels.
If you won’t be joining us by staying at the official conference hotel, be sure to check the proximity of your hotel to the conference location, as students often tell us that being close made their experience that much better.
Conference Location
The conference will be held at the Hilton New Orleans Airport. The address is 901 Airline Drive, Kenner, LA 70062. The hotel phone is 504-469-5000.
ASGA chose a hotel near the New Orleans airport to make it super convenient and inexpensive for students and advisors traveling from across the country. The hotel sleeping room and food costs are much lower than in the French Quarter, and parking is $15 off the regular nightly rate (self parking). The conference hotel also has a free shuttle that will take you to and from the airport.
If you want to go sightseeing, you will need to take an airport shuttle or get a rental car/van. The hotel is about 13 miles from the French Quarter in New Orleans.
Weather
In February the average day-time highs are 60-80 degrees and the average evening temperatures range from as low as 40-50 degrees. Meeting rooms may be cool due to air conditioning.
Airport
If it would take you more than eight hours to drive to this conference, ASGA recommends that you consider flying. If you choose to travel by air, we recommend that you fly into Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY).
Ground Transportation
The recommended hotel, the Hilton New Orleans Airport is just one mile from the airport and has a free shuttle that will take you to and from the airport. If you stay at another hotel, you will need a rental car, taxi, or Uber to get you to and from the conference location, airport, and sightseeing.
Taxi/Shuttle from Hotel to French Quarter:
The hotel recommends James and James Transportation at 504-371-8920. The fees start at $30 round-trip per person from the conference hotel to the French Quarter. Please call in advance to make your reservation.
You also can take a taxi for $36.00 one way from the airport to the French Quarter for one or two persons and $15.00 (per passenger) for three or more passengers. Pick-up is on the lower level, outside the baggage claim area. There may be an additional charge for extra baggage. There is a $1 fuel surcharge added to total fare.
Uber may be a cheaper alternative.
An airport shuttle is available to the French Quarter for about $24 per person ($44 per person roundtrip).
Uber and Lyft
Both taxi-alternatives are convenient and easy to use. You’ll probably save money by using Uber or Lyft over a taxi.
Rental Car
If you want to go into New Orleans and visit the French Quarter, you’ll need a rental car or a taxi.
